Wednesday Mar 20, 2024

Ok...this is a special one for us. In this episode, we (Josh & Has) dig into our secret projects that we've been alluding to on the podcast for the last year.
Has talks about his new manager platform that he's launching today, tyllr, and what makes it so different from everything else out there.
And although Josh's book, "It's Them, Not You", isn't quite a secret anymore, we talk about why it's so important and the impact we believe it will have in the world.
We think of our listeners as friends, so we hope you'll enjoy hearing about our missions outside of 115 miles.

Are you an ethical person?

Wednesday Mar 06, 2024

Wednesday Mar 06, 2024

In today's episode, we (Has & Josh) talk all about ethics and moral dilemmas.
We’re at a foul point in our global history - there is an incredible amount of division, war, genocide, poverty, individualism and state oppression in the world.
As humans/citizens, we are being forced into choices and dilemmas in a way unlike in our living memory - so we're asking some big questions in today's episode.
We dive into the upcoming general election and our beloved NHS in the UK...it get's pretty punchy at one point!
We hope you're sitting comfortably...

Are you doing the shadow work?

Wednesday Feb 21, 2024

Wednesday Feb 21, 2024

Welcome to the second part of our conversation on shadows.
We start by digging into our emotions using the 'emotions wheel' before doing our usual lighthearted trip into our unique and often polarised views on life.
We (Josh & Has) then go deeper into exploring our shadow sides, diving into the what they are and some of the work that is needed to begin to tackle them.
This leads us into the topic of the Collective Shadow - the notion of our societal dark sides.
Such a big topic that we almost ran out of time on again...it's definitely one we'll revisit.
Hope you're sitting comfortably...

What hides in your shadows?

Wednesday Feb 07, 2024

Wednesday Feb 07, 2024

We all have parts of ourselves that we don't like and try to keep hidden - these are called our 'shadow sides' and in today's episode, we (Has & Josh) dig into it.
In the conversation, we uncover what the term shadow side means and we explore where it might begin in our lives.
We talk about our own shadow sides and give a perspective on what we think each other's shadows (blind spots) are.
This is Part 1 of a 2 part conversation, where next time we'll dig further into it and explore the concept of Collective Shadow - the effect of people's shadows combining.
We hope you're sitting comfortably...it's about to get uncomfortable.

Wednesday Jan 24, 2024

In this episode we (Josh Connolly & Hasan Khair) get into body image.
Research suggests that girls are more likely to be dissatisfied with their appearance and their weight than boys. In a recent survey, 46% of girls reported that their body image causes them to worry 'often' or 'always', compared to 25% of boys.
We discuss the increasing pressures on boys and girls both, but particularly around whether we believe the stat around boys is entirely accurate.
We explore our own journeys around body image and whether we would go under the knife to preserve our youth!
As always, a bit of fun around the big topics, but as we hope you now come to expect from us, lots of vulnerability and candour in this one too.

Is Dry January worth it?

Wednesday Jan 10, 2024

Wednesday Jan 10, 2024

Welcome back to our first episode of 2024! In this episode, we (Hasan Khair & Josh Connolly) reflect on our big years ahead before diving into the controversy that engulfed our content from the last episode around Joey Barton.
We explore what happens when you unwittingly get pulled outside of your echo chamber and get exposed to the darker side of internet communities.
From there, we move into Dry January and delve into the practice of abstinence from alchohol. We discuss its value and the inevitable correlation to the wider conversations around addiction and overconsumption.
It's good to be back in the studio!

Wednesday Dec 13, 2023

Welcome to our Christmas 2023 special!
It's been a big year and we reflect on the biggest things for us - both positive and negative.
Then we move full force into Xmas cheer - dad jokes for the cracker, and the most important discussion of all time, who are top 5 greatest bands of all time are.
Expect sparks to fly on this one!

What are you scared of?

Wednesday Nov 29, 2023

Wednesday Nov 29, 2023

In this episode, we're talking about the fears we carry.
We first lightheartedly explore the UK's top 10 most feared things and some very weird ones (clusters of holes, anyone?) before diving into our own personal fears and why they show up.
We discuss ways we can begin to overcome our fears too.
It's scary stuff - we hope you're sitting comfortably!

Are you seen & heard?

Wednesday Nov 15, 2023

Wednesday Nov 15, 2023

With International Men's Day 2023 approaching, we go deep on the topic of men, feelings, talking and support.
The theme for this year is Zero Male Suicide. We discuss what leads to 1 in 4 men taking their own lives in the UK and explore some of the complexities of talking about male issues in the context of their privilege in the world as it relates to women.
It's a raw conversation and one we expect might garner different opinions from our listeners.
We hope you're sitting comfortably...because it's about to get uncomfortable.

Are you lonely?

Wednesday Nov 01, 2023

Wednesday Nov 01, 2023

Today, we talk about deep friendships and loneliness.
We are in an epidemic.
1 in 4 people in the UK are affected by loneliness.
According to some reports, the impact on loneliness on people is like smoking 15 cigarettes a day and increases overall risk of death by 26%.
The total number of people in the UK who say they “often” or “always” feel lonely increased from 2.6 million people in 2020 to 3.3 million people in 2022.
In the conversation, we explore our own friendship origins and how we have come to support each other. And then we go deep on the loneliness topic.
Today is raw, vulnerable and challenging...hope you're sitting comfortably.
And as promised, here's the link to that🔥 in the Booth with Wretch 32: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7nnLBzzQk-I&t=189s

What will you ask us?

Wednesday Oct 18, 2023

Wednesday Oct 18, 2023

We've put together a special episode of 115miles where we let our followers ask the questions.

No limits, nothing off the table.

We had some deep and meaningful ones

And some straight up weird ones.

You might learn more about us than we were ready to share...like what Josh does in the shower that Has doesn't... 👀

Lots of laughs and banter along the way.

We like this format and hope you do too...you know the drill...sit yourself down comfortably because it's about to get uncomfortable.

Do you enjoy other’s misery?

Wednesday Oct 04, 2023

Wednesday Oct 04, 2023

With the Tory party seemingly on the brink of a calamitous election defeat, Has began by saying how much joy and glee he was taking from the situation and the potential demise of some of he sinister players in the party.
This led us to the topic of 'schadenfreude', which is the pleasure derived by someone from another person's misfortune.
We explore josh's views on who he likes to see fail and more widely, what it says about us as a society to want to see 'certain' people fail.
Lots of humour and lightness around in today's episode, including the some awkward questions like "what do you do when it's only you at home alone"?
As usual, we hope you're sitting comfortably because...it's about to get uncomfortable.

Are you an ally or a hypocrite?

Wednesday Sep 20, 2023

Wednesday Sep 20, 2023

And we're back with a bang! After a little summer break, we're diving in where we left off - tackling the hard questions that people often find difficult to answer.
In this episode, we discuss 'Allyship' through exploring Jordan Henderson's move to Saudi Arabia.
Henderson's move is particularly contentious because he has been a vocal ally of the LGBTQA+ community and this was seen as a moment of allyship trumped by personal interests.
We explore the conversation, allyship in general and put ourselves in the hot seat of what we'd do in a similar situation - let's just say, it's not easy!
We hope you're sitting comfortably because it's about to get uncomfortable....

Wednesday Jul 26, 2023

We're super excited for you to hear this one as we're joined for our Co-Host session by Jess Frost and Nick Edgar of 3E Space.
In this episode, we talk about Healing.
'Healing work' often is associated with woo-woo people or spiritually inclined folks, and is therefore probably misunderstood. We wanted to lift the 'hood' on it today by exploring some things together.
Why do people even need to be healed?
What if someone doesn't feel there's anything wrong with them, or that they're broken?
We also cover why Josh first started Inner You, and the power of community in healing.
Jess & NIck are deeply experienced in providing transformational coaching and holistic wellbeing, helping their clients navigate some incredible challenges and life opportunities.  Please look them up at https://www.the3espace.com/
We loved having this conversation and hope you enjoy the listen!

Do you have any regrets in life?

Wednesday Jul 12, 2023

Wednesday Jul 12, 2023

Not gonna lie, but this episode is a banger!
In the emotional check in - we dive into personal growth and the importance of having a safe and trustworthy community around you.
We explore regrets - should we have them and is there any value that comes from exploring our past journeys or mistakes?
Life throws us all many big questions daily and we took time to dig into some of them - exposing the uncomfortable truths and misconceptions along the way.
Hope you enjoy listening to this episode as much as we did recording it...

Wednesday Jun 28, 2023

This is undoubtedly one of our most powerful conversations on 115 Miles.
We hope you're sitting comfortably...and we know we always say this, but...it's about to get uncomfortable.
We are joined by our good friend and CEO of Power The Fight, Ben Lindsay, to have a deep discussion about race, racism and our relationship with it in the UK.
Our conversation responded to the news in the last few days about the naming of another suspect in the murder of Stephen Lawrence and of yet another tragic death of a child yards away from the charity's office.
We explore the heaviness and trauma that communities feel in these moments, why the media paints it as a black people only problem (and why it's definitely not) and we confront our own conscious and unconscious prejudices as a white majority society.
Ben brings knowledge, wisdom and grace having been doing this work for over two decades and we were privileged and honoured to have him join us as our co-host.
Ben is CEO of Power The Fight, a charity dedicated to empowering communities to end youth violence. He is also a keynote speaker, published author of a best selling book, as well as currently doing his PHD at Durham University.
Find out more about Ben and the team's incredible work at www.powerthefight.org.uk.

Wednesday Jun 14, 2023

We explore why we often find it difficult to hear people when they offer advice or opinions in our best interests. We dive into what gets triggered within us and how to receive it in the way it is intended.
In this episode, we also explore what it takes to be a peak performing team and ask whether there are any costs to pursuing greatness?
We hope hope you're sitting comfortably because it's about to get uncomfortable...

Who’s gonna fix the racism?

Wednesday May 31, 2023

Wednesday May 31, 2023

In this episode, we discuss the all too familiar story of a black footballer, Vinicius Jr, being racially abused by an opposition team's fans in Spain.
We dive into what sanctions should exist to drive this out of the stadiums and in doing so, we explore whether it's a wider societal problem in both Spain and other European countries.
Although the incident happened a few weeks back, the issue is sadly not going away anytime soon.
It's so appalling that we still need to be having these conversations in 2023, but overt racism still exists in plain light and there is so much work is still to do.
And if you think it's just isolated to football, think again. It's just that 'the beautiful game' is under the spotlights of TV.
We hope you're sitting comfortably because it's about to get uncomfortable...

Wednesday May 17, 2023

As a special episode for Mental Health Awareness Week, we're delighted to bring another Co-Host session to you!
Joining us in the the studio is Ed Jenneson. A renowned employment lawyer and a specialist in neurodiversity, Ed shares his own journey around his own diagnosis, his relationship with anxiety and his sobriety.
Together we explore this year's Mental Health Awareness Week theme, Anxiety, where we dive in from a very personal perspective into a wider viewpoint around the workplace and society.
It's a special episode - we're grateful to have Ed's wisdom and experience, and if you listen closely enough, you might even hear his Robbie Williams impression!

Wednesday May 03, 2023

This is a really special episode for us! For the first time ever, we have invited our friends to join our conversation as co-hosts.
Eugene, Fran and Nadia are the wonderful hosts of the Social Matters podcast, as well as being social workers and Inclusion consultants.
Amongst the many(many) laughs, we have some serious conversations about workplace culture, society, the Tories (surprise!) and the impact of over a decade's worth of cuts to children's support services.
We're going to give you fair warning - the Social Matters crew bring the same high level of madness and energy as us, so it's going to be a raucous listen!
We'll be doing more Co-Host Sessions - watch this space 👀

Do nice people ever win?

Wednesday Apr 19, 2023

Wednesday Apr 19, 2023

In this episode, we reflect on the Labour Party's recent 'attack' ads on the Tory party, which feels like a departure from their approach over the last few years.
This led us to exploring whether being nice ever wins the day against those who bring a more hard edged approach.
As ever, we dive into tough stuff that we know people think about, but don't always feel comfortable to talk about.
We hope you enjoy the listen!

Wednesday Apr 05, 2023

Do you have persistent feelings of inadequacy, self-doubt and fears of being exposed as a fraud?
If the answer is yes, then you could one of the many millions of us that suffer with Imposter Syndrome.
According to YOUGOV, 66% of Britons find it difficult to receive praise or compliments from others.  Around 57% downplay their achievements and criticise themselves more than others criticise them.
Imposter Syndrome is real and for many people, it prevents them from moving forward in their lives.
In this episode of 115 miles, we go deep on this topic, both from a personal exploration and also how it might show up for others.  Josh shares his framework for acknowledging and addressing feeling like an imposter and how to move through it.
We really hope it might help those people who suffer from it in a debilitating way and give them some perspectives on how to move forward.
As always - we are super grateful to all our listeners for showing up. Please do follow, like or comment as it genuinely makes a difference to our reach and will help us to continue to push the boundaries of our conversations.

Wednesday Mar 22, 2023

Apparently, the average friendship lasts 17 years.
Are you still friends with people from school?
Who is in your closest circle?
What makes a good friend?
In this episode, we (Josh and Has) go deep on friendship. We explore what the difference is between being mates and being great friends.
We also explore judging people on the tube, how we're misunderstood and how we're doing on our words of the year.
Hope you enjoy!

Wednesday Mar 08, 2023

At the time of publishing this episode, we are three centuries away from Gender Parity according to the UN Secretary General.
We live in a world, where less than 1% of venture capital money in the UK is invested in all female founder teams, compared to 89% in all male teams.
A world where 1 in every 10 women globally between the ages of 15-49 was subjected to subjected to sexual and/or physical violence by an intimate partner.
On Wednesday 8th March 2023, International Women’s Day, we, Josh and Has, ask what’s the point of it?
We explore topics like oppressive structures, male fragility and inter-sectionalism.
We ask what can we do as men to accelerate the change?
Spoken and seen through our lens as partners, fathers, colleagues, friends and allys, we try to bring both empathy and compassion to the conversation.
We’re proud to have these conversations on 115miles and push beyond the boundaries of our comfort zones.
As always, please come and find us @115milespod on Insta and leave us a review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify. You might not think it, but it really makes a difference.
Ok…let’s head into the episode.

Wednesday Feb 22, 2023

We (Josh & Has) start the show looking at tearing down some opinions - either popular ones we disagree with or ones of ours we know will be unpopular. This conversation definitely takes us down a few rabbit holes...
We then go into the topic of whether texts written in the past should be re-written for the modern age - specifically we discussed Roald Dahl's works being re-edited and published.
This was a deep conversation - with introspection, contradictions and pause for thought - are we simply not understanding the needs of this next generation?
We hope you're sitting comfortably because it's about to get uncomfortable...

Wednesday Feb 08, 2023

If you’ve ever worried about a friend, loved one, family member, partner who you think is on the edge of addiction, this episode is for you.
In this latest 115 miles, we (Josh and Has) discuss how a light-hearted bit of banter led us both to a bit of soul searching and then ultimately some positive action for Josh.
We talk about how we’re all faced at some time or another with feeling helpless around how to tackle a difficult conversation with someone that might be triggering or met with confrontation.
We dive into some ways to explore it sensitively and compassionately – whilst acknowledging things like projection and judgement may be present.
In a more lighthearted bit, we also discuss who we’d have at our dream dinner party. Living or Dead, famous or not – the big question for all our 115miles community though  - whose party would you rather be at mine or Josh's?

Wednesday Jan 25, 2023

If you've ever watched Room 101, you'll love the start of this episode. You'll get an insight into our (Josh & Has) pet peeves and what triggers our crankiness. You may or may not agree with the choices though!
The big topic this episode is understanding how trauma or traumatic moments feed our adult lives, using Has' recent exploration into his own childhood as a basis for this important conversation.
Vulnerable, open and emotional - we hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed recording this episode.

Wednesday Jan 11, 2023

A big start to 2023! We (Josh & Has) begin by talk ing about our personal intentions for the year and our hopes for wider society in 2023.
Our main discussion centres around the sweeping legislation coming into effect in the UK around 'anti-striking' and who it will ultimately affect.
We also discuss the mandatory mathematics to 18yrs and our views around why these plans are being introduced.
A flying start to our podcast for the new year!

Wednesday Dec 14, 2022

This is our (Josh & Has) final episode of 2022 and to keep with tradition, it's a festive reflective one.
We begin by discussing whether Raheem Stirling should have gone home when he was burgled during the World Cup, before accidentally tripping into the topic of Josh's sock drawer and cupboard.
We discuss the upcoming strikes and our current points of view before moving into some reflections of 2022.
No spoilers, but Josh has the worst name for the book that sums up his year. No kidding, it's really bad.
Enjoy and see you in January 2023!
115 Miles is a podcast by Josh Connolly & Hasan Khair

Wednesday Nov 30, 2022

In the penultimate episode of 2022, we (Josh & Has) actually start with a serious chat around whether we are currently in one of the worst times of society...but fear not, we pick things up and explore our cringiest memories, what we'd do with a time machine and a challenge exclusively for Josh to consider.
The now infamous 'emotional check in' takes a different spin  - looking at the yin/yang of feelings we might be having - showing that we can hold many things at once.
We then wade into Matt Hancock on Celebrity Jungle - and explore whether the nation has forgiven him (and we bring up a previous episode around Joe Rogan too).
Our next conversation takes us into people power - and whether under the most extreme pressure-even very obedient societies - all crack.
This is a great conversation - exploring tough topics with strong opinions  - we hope you enjoy it.
115 Miles is a podcast by Josh Connolly and Hasan Khair.

Wednesday Nov 16, 2022

Another very early start in the studio for us - we kick off in our usual high pace style that sees us go from breakfasts, packed lunches, posters on 15yr olds walls, flatpack furniture and then some very interesting facts! This was all in the first 6 minutes!
From there, we had a deeper personal check in around health, systems, ripple effects and the power of our minds in forming good & bad habits.
We then wade deep into the controversy of the World Cup - exploring the strong feelings about this particular event, human rights and the hypocrisy of many people around it.
This was an important conversation - one that we hope will get others to have a think about their views on it.
115 Miles is a podcast by Josh Connolly and Hasan Khair

Wednesday Nov 02, 2022

We (Josh & Has) always begin with the hardest questions of society - ie...how do you eat your Weetabix? Once we established that it has to be warm milk, we moved onto a subject close to us - food addiction and talked about how difficult it is to declare, diagnose and manage, given it is not regarding with the same view as other addictions.
We talk about the new UK Prime Minister, looking at his voting record as an MP to explore what kind of PM he will be, before moving into a discussion about representation. From there, we move into a deep conversation about Elon's Musk's takeover of Twitter and the reported increased in hate speech since his ownership. We talk about censorship, free speech, hate speech and what we can do about it.
Full debate, strong points of view - we hope you enjoy the listen.

Wednesday Oct 19, 2022

Recording this episode early on a Monday morning, we (Josh & Has) talk about hustling and the current backlash against it on social media.
We discuss Whether we believe Liz Truss has much time left as Prime Minister (spoiler: we don't) and we talk about current activism in the UK and how people are responding to it. Josh introduces a little fun with our phones before moving onto the topic of online trolling.
In this conversation, we dive into some comments Has received after posting a 115 Miles conversation on social media - we look at that and explore when online commentary has tones of prejudice and when it is sometimes simply making a point.
We cover lots of ground, have lots of laughs and chat about some serious stuff too. We hope you enjoy it.
115 Miles is a podcast by Josh Connolly & Hasan Khair.

Wednesday Oct 05, 2022

In this episode, we (Josh Connolly and Hasan Khair) unsurprisingly go deep on the economic crisis affecting the UK. We discuss the current government's disastrous policies that have plunged society into further hardship by exploring some of the costs involved and who it will hit hardest (hint: it's not the top 1%!)
Earlier in our check-in, we talk about perfectionism and needing to be in control and how that can drive pressure and anxiety.
As usual, we try to take on the hardest topics through our normal approach - curiosity, humour and challenge.
We hope you enjoy the discussion.

Wednesday Sep 21, 2022

We have a running start on this episode as the trains really tried to stop Josh from getting to the 115 Miles studio.
Trains cancelled, stuck in traffic and running late, Josh was further hindered by needing to really focus during his drive... you have to listen to find out why!
As you'd expect the day after the Queen's funeral, our conversation was dominated by her passing. In true 115 style, we tried to dig a little deeper and explored our feelings around the events and also whether they conjured up any other feelings around the monarchy.
Although most people will be ready to start moving on, we wanted to acknowledge this important moment in time for us here in the UK.
Hope you enjoy it.

Wednesday Sep 07, 2022

If you were on a deserted island, what would you need? This is how we (Josh and Has) start our conversation. You may be surprised by some of the answers.
From there, we dive headfirst into the serious stuff. We talk about the cost of living crisis and its devastating impact on people and the lack of care or plan from the UK government to tackle this issue affecting the lower 50% of the economic ladder. We talk about the rising community movements - Enough is Enough and Don't Pay UK and how people are coming together.
From there, we dive into the impact money worries have on people and their mental health.
Finally - we talk about World Suicide Prevention Day and how you can actually 'lean in' and listen.
You don't want to miss this one!

Wednesday Aug 24, 2022

What did Americans use before toilet paper was invented?
What did folks say before 'cheese' became the word for photos?
What speed do sneezes come out?
Yes - we tackle the big stuff on 115 Miles...Josh's facts make another appearance and as ever, you will leave more bountiful with knowledge.
We have our emotional check in before diving into a very important discussion - does money make you happy? In this chat, we talk holistically, but also dive into some personal stories on the topic.Hope you enjoy!

Wednesday Aug 10, 2022

We (Josh & Has) begin this episode by learning more about Josh's steam room business meetings and how he introduces contraband into the game.
Has then asks Josh a series of questions in a segment he called 'Inside the Mind of Josh Connolly' where he discovered that Josh once gazed at Tom Hardy at Coral Reef swimming pool in Bracknell. There are plenty of other gems in this conversation.
Onto the real topics of the day, Has introduces a saying "Fail we may, Sail we must" made famous by the late DJ & music producer, Andrew Weatherall, who had it tattooed on his arms after a conversation with a young Irish fisherman. We talk about the need to sometimes have to push through fear, anxiety and worry because for many, there often is no choice.
We then talk about the Lionesses winning Euros and despite this fact, only receive £55,000 (compared to the men's team who received £300,000 for reaching the final) - we talk about the distance in pay parity still in existence.
We say this all the time, but it's really a banger of an episode! You have to listen!

Wednesday Jul 27, 2022

Josh hits us up with some interesting fact based questions again - by the end of this podcast you will know what the Spice Girls were originally going to be called. (If that isn't high quality audio entertainment, we don't know what is!)
From this auspicious start, we move into our check in - reflecting on how we are and have been feeling over the past few weeks.
We talk about feedback - and how even the toughest of messages can lead to incredible life changes for people. Following this, we discuss the recent study that throws the potential impact of anti-depressants into doubt.
Another banger of an episode if we do say so ourselves ;-)

Wednesday Jul 13, 2022

The first episode after Boris' resignation was always going to be dominated by our (Josh & Has) perspective on the matter. Rather than dwell on Bojo himself, we explore the unexpected scenario of there being more ethnic minority background candidates than white ones for the Conservative parter leader.
We explore whether this is progressive, or given the individuals involved, regressive for people of colour's perceptions of opportunities in public life.
We then move into the topic of feeling out of control and ways we can take it back when we feel overwhelmed.
And then onto the most important topic of the day - ice cream or ice lollies?

Wednesday Jun 29, 2022

In this week's episode, Josh fires us up with 3 crazy facts about life...we hope you'll be as amazed as Has was about some of them.
From there, a check in leads us to having a conversation about Anxiety and how to acknowledge and deal with our feelings in the moment.
We go deep on Roe Vs Wade being overturned and explore our views and responsibilities as men here in the UK.
We discuss a recent Daily Mail article ridiculing builders for being 'woke' because they discuss their feelings, do Yoga and and don't eat fry ups.
And finally, we talk about the importance of protests in keeping those in power from becoming autocrats and dictators.
A big conversation with lots of juiciness and you'll learn how to get to the moon too!

Wednesday Jun 15, 2022

We (Josh and Has) get back in the studio together for a lovely conversation as the sun shines outside.
We begin by exploring how we are feeling in the moment - embodying what is present for us both through the power of realtime reflection. We then explore one of our favourite topics of systems and habits as a way as a mechanism to reframe and transition from work into home life.
From there, we talk about the impact of trial by social media on the Depp/Heard case and its implications for how we judge as a society.
Given the economic hardships many people are suffering, we wanted to dedicate some time to beginning a conversation about side hustles and the importance of first exploring purpose through the ancient Japanese philosophy 'Ikigai'.
Check out an archive article by Has on the topic here: https://www.mavericksunlimited.com/blogarchive/get-out-of-bed

Wednesday Jun 01, 2022

Running in hot after some tech issues, this is another solid conversation between us.
We cover being out of the office properly, witty messages and virtue signalling, power structures and of course illicit Downing Street cheese and wine parties!
Enjoy!

Wednesday May 18, 2022

We (Josh and Has) are back in the studio together for the latest episode of 115 Miles.
We discuss Josh's reflections after reaching 10 years of sobriety at the weekend, which leads us into a broader conversation around personal transformation journeys, mountains, and navigating obstacles.
From there we move into the topic of Priti Patel's new sweeping reforms of Stop & Search and the disproportionate targeting of on Black and Asian communities. This was a robust conversation that led us to the topic of censorship and Twitter's impending sale to Elon Musk.
A HUGE episode with lots of ground covered. Hope you enjoy!

Wednesday May 04, 2022

We're back! After a little break from recording, we (Josh & Has) return with a conversation that begins with a check in and leads us to discuss systems and binge eating.
We talk about Mental Health Awareness Week and the job of companies before and after this week.
We dive into the Depp/Heard trial (or rather how we've tried to avoid it) and then move into our very personal reasons be cheerful.

Wednesday Apr 06, 2022

Even though we're over a week on, we (Josh & Has) had to talk about THE Will Smith slap. Beginning with an argument about whether it was a joke about alopecia or not, we moved into the psychology of the slap and what could lead a person to react in a moment. We try to reflect on how we might react or how we do sometimes behave when pushed to our limits.
From there, we move into a conversation about a very important date in May - May 14th to be precise - which marks 10 years of sobriety for Josh. We talk about his lessons learned over the decade and things he continues to work on everyday, before exploring his BHAG!
We have the same reason to be cheerful this week too - enjoy!

Wednesday Mar 23, 2022

We (Josh and Has) begin with a weary eyed Has talking about his late evening dancing the night before, in which we also discovered that Josh is a faux hip hop fan too.
Moving onto more serious things, we talked about how Boris Johnson has seemingly escaped once again and explore whether this points to public apathy around his misdemeanours.
Josh then explores the impact of the invasion by Russia in Ukraine on Has and people around him, which leads to broad discussion around the role that the media plays in shaping society's views about different world events.
We have a quickfire chat about reading books one at a time, Kim Kardashian's recent comments and Steven Bartlett/Matt Hancock.
Lot's of ground covered - enjoy!

Wednesday Mar 09, 2022

In this episode, we (Josh and Has) begin talk about the virtues of sparkling water in Josh's battle with carbonated drinks. Thankfully, we move on from that pretty quickly in the deeper topic around self value and not seeing what others see in us.
We explore why we find it more difficult to identify our value vs our ability to spot our flaws. From there, we move into the power of re-framing thoughts.
Has then asks Josh to think about our natural 'default' settings - possibly our truest authentic self, when that shows up and how to manage it.
From there we explore the concept of AND vs OR - the ability to hold two (maybe sometimes opposing) views concurrently.

Wednesday Feb 23, 2022

We (Josh and Has) have an altogether different conversation this week.  We talk about mustard yellow being one of Has's favourite colours, storm Eunice, erratic swimming before we get into the meaty topic of rest and recuperation.
We discuss the value of rest on us as humans through exploring what Has learnt from his week of last week. This leads us to a conversation on gruelling work schedules and where responsibility lies for dealing with this - is it the individual or employer?
It's a rounded discussion with some personal tips on how to makes the most of a restful week and carry it on when you get back.
Reasons to be cheerful is an important one this week as Josh talks about his incredible work during COA week 2022.

Wednesday Feb 09, 2022

Warning: this could be our punchiest episode yet.
We (Josh and Has) kick things off by talking about flow states - how to get things done in a world that's constantly moving at pace.
Josh talks about the incredible work he is doing in creating space for men to help them become open to being vulnerable and talking more. We discuss the importance of this on wider society, as well as for the individuals concerned.
We then wade into the Joe Rogan and the current conversation around Spotify. This was a very heated debated between us where we have very different opinions, but in the end, we found some common ground as we always do.
This is both our longest and punchiest episode to date - hope you enjoy!

Wednesday Jan 26, 2022

We (Josh and Has) start the episode by reviewing the year so far into January before heading into the topic of focus, a subject we're both reading a book by Johan Hari about.
We talk about the newest dragon on Dragon's Den, Steven Bartlett and how he's making a splash and disrupting things.
Inevitably - we move into 'partygate' (how could we not??) and we talk about the drivers behind their behaviour. This leads to a really powerful discussion about the addictive nature of power.
We hope you enjoy it.

Wednesday Jan 12, 2022

We're back with a bang with the first episode of 2022! We (Josh & Has) begin the conversation reflecting on the break and move into the topic of new year's resolutions. We discuss why so many people fail at keeping them and talk about the notion of intentions vs goals.
From there, we wade into the inevitable topic du jour, which is the government getting caught having parties during lockdown whilst imposing strict lockdown rules on the nation. I ask Josh whether it is necessary to investigate this now after almost 2 years - the answer in unsurprising.
Finally, we move into the topic of cancel culture (again...it's not going away sadly) with 22 year old, Molly-Mae Hague vilified for a comment she made on a recent podcast.
A lively conversation to kick off the 115miles 2022 tab!

Wednesday Dec 22, 2021

Ok - we're not gonna lie, this one is short and sweet. Our tech realised it's the end of the year and thought "nah, I'm not having this.." and decided to fail on us.
Before that though, we (Josh and Has) go down am email etiquette wormhole before we thankfully save ourselves and get into an emotional check in with each other.
Finally, we just hit a hot topic on the current situation in the UK before our tech mishap.
Unfortunately, we didn't have time to re-record before the break, so rather than nothing, we wanted to give our listeners the taster and we'll come back in the new year with Part 2!
Happy Christmas to those that celebrate and happy holiday break to everyone! See you in 2022!

Wednesday Dec 08, 2021

In this penultimate episode of the year, we (Josh and Has) kick off a very deep topic - what is the best Christmas chocolate of all? Strong opinions held strongly, that's for sure.
From there, we move into the topic of comfort zones, playing safe and learning to move past our blocks.
We then talk about showing up with authenticity, being courageous and not being afraid to express who you are in the world.
Lots of laughs, particularly at Has' idea of a first tattoo.
Enjoy!

Wednesday Nov 24, 2021

This week, we (Josh and Has) jump straight into things by talking about the things that Has integrated into life since talking about his overwhelm in the last episode.
We then talk about some things going on in the world - such as the Brit awards changes and the furore over a celebrity's recent 'Squid Game' party.
Josh then leads us into a deep conversation as two fathers who grew up without fathers. A very personal and vulnerable space for us both that we explore not just for fathers, or even parents, but everyone who is interested in human dynamics and relationship behaviours.
We hope you enjoy it.

Wednesday Nov 10, 2021

In this episode, we (Josh and Has) talk about overwhelm. We discuss how it can show up differently for different people - resilience goes into overdrive for Has, and for others it brings other things like wellbeing to the fore.
We talk about the role that both individuals and organisations have to play to deal with stress and burnout.
From there, we go deep into the topic of poverty and particularly around children, where in the UK today, 1 in 3 children grows up in poverty.
We talk about celebrity gurus and their often out of touch comments being communicated to hundreds of thousands (sometimes millions) of followers, and the impact this has on the most vulnerable parts of society.
We're unapologetically raising the debate around the privilege and oppressive structures  - please listen, but more importantly, take a call to action to do something about it if it moves you.

Friday Oct 29, 2021

A slightly later episode this week as Josh did some much needed R&R with his family in Jamaica.
However, as soon as we get going, we (Josh & Has) pick up where we left off last time and talk divided opinions on our last episode around blackfishing and culture appropriation.
We talk about the book 'The Madness of Crowds' - an ideologically rightwing view on the power of crowd mentality, which leads to some quite heated debate at timed and divided opinions from us both.
From there, we move onto the topic free (or hate) speech on clothing and whether the police have a right to enforce policy in this area.
This leads us back again to discuss how crowds move quickly to shape opinion and often cancelling of individuals.
It was a strong conversation between two best friends, that was topped off with a couple of lovely reasons to be cheerful!
Health warning - lots of swearing in this episode ;-)

Wednesday Oct 13, 2021

We (Josh and Has) head into a challenging conversation around blackfishing - particularly at how the media seems to give guys who do it a pass, whilst focusing on the women who do it. As you might expect, this leads us into a wider conversation around cultural appreciation and appropriation.
We then talk about World Mental Health Day in the context of inequity and privilege - discussing how many in society both lack access and are unrepresented in mental health support.
We end on a discussion about the happiest country in the world before heading into reasons to be cheerful!

Wednesday Sep 29, 2021

This is a special one - the very first episode of 115 Miles with us (Josh and Has) in the same room together.
After an awkward feeling start, we move into the main topics on our minds, which unsurprisingly begins with the "fuel crisis" in the UK and a discussion about who's actually responsible for it.
We then discuss the tragic death of Sabina Nessa and the difference in both reporting of her death and the subsequent national reaction, compared to the tragic death of Sarah Everard. We talk about police tactics, policy and the notion of modifying behaviour.
Finally - we move into the subject of youth funding cuts and it's long term implications for society.
Today we give a shout out to the amazing charity Power The Fight, working tirelessly to 'End Youth Violence' and improve the lives of communities affected by it.
Please check them out and if it resonates, make a donation to the cause: https://www.powerthefight.org.uk/

Wednesday Sep 15, 2021

We're kicking off Season 2 by talking about Josh's breakfast, but fear not, the rest of the conversation definitely goes up in quality from there ;-).
We talk about about Emma Raducanu's incredible US Open win and the subsequent conversations that have ensued around her heritage and about multiculturalism in the UK.
We then move into the rising levels of stress and anxiety that Gen Z and Millennials are going through today, and the continued stigma around mental health in this country.
The chat is polished off as always by our reasons to be cheerful, and Josh truly has an incredible one this week.

Wednesday Jul 14, 2021

School's out for the summer! In this final episode before a well earned summer break, Josh and Has inevitably wade into the European Cup final and the events of racism that followed. They discuss the state of a divided nation and the support for the black players following the abhorrent racism directed at them.
Josh and Has then move into the fast approaching 'unlocking' of England from Covid restrictions and the confusing nature of the Government's communications, highlighting a strategy of 'plausible deniability'.
A great conversation to end on before the return later in September 2021.

Wednesday Jun 30, 2021

In the penultimate episode before a well earned summer break, Josh and Has, like a thrilling fairground ride, go upwards, downwards and sideways and everywhere in between.
They have a lighthearted chat about Has' birthday, the Euros and the illicit Matt Hancock kiss and Hollywood's most famous kiss.
Josh and Has discuss the notion of following instructions without questioning them and the fear of wanting healthy debate but being fearful of the impact of doing so.
As usual, some reasons to be cheerful to add a cherry on top of a broad conversation.

Wednesday Jun 16, 2021

After a little half term break, Josh and Has return with another rollercoaster of a conversation - beginning with Josh's ice bath practice before inadvertently falling into the topic of 'dodgy' teachers and then swiftly recovered into the breathing master Wim Hof.
They talk about the extension of lockdown and the lack of education around natural means of immune boosting (vs vaccinations).
Has then asks Josh about what's driving Priti Patel's Agenda (after asking if she's a bigger alien than Keir Starmer) before moving into the conversation of feeling tired, bored and needing a break - this leads to an honest conversation about Josh and Has' view on taking a short break in recording.
As ever, a sweet (and quite cheesy) finish with reasons to be cheerful!

Wednesday May 19, 2021

Another cracking conversation between Josh and Hasan in this latest episode of 115 miles.
They journey from rule-bending hugs to the Government's lack of compassion/wilful swindling of the British public to Will Smith's latest antics. From there, Josh and Hasan dive into a  conversation around assisted death and unpack how complex the topic is.
As usual, things are wrapped with reasons to be cheerful. And a spoiler, it's another monumental year forward for Josh.

Wednesday May 05, 2021

In this episode, Josh and Hasan begin by dissecting Josh's letter to Keir Starmer.
From that auspicious start, they head into the cash for makeovers scandal that is currently engulfing the British government, however they somehow head back towards Keir Starmer and explore what they think his musical tastes are!
On a more serious note, Hasan and Josh talk about authenticity and discuss whether we have one true authentic self, or many different versions of authenticity.
They then move into some uncomfortable questions for Josh (many of which Josh avoids by the way...) such as "what's the most embarrassing thing you've been caught doing by your mum?"
And as you've come to expect, a close out with some reasons to be cheerful.

Wednesday Apr 21, 2021

Officially one episode after 115 miles' first anniversary - Josh and Hasan take a moment to review their first year as podcasters, with the high, lows and laughs in between.
This conversation was preceded by the question on everyone's lips (according to Josh that is)...what happened in Line of Duty on Sunday night (for non-UK listeners, it's worth digging out if you can!). This led to a discussion about whether there is a role for the BBC in today's society, or whether it is past its value.
Josh and Hasan then move into a more serious conversation about the role of an opposition party leader and whether Labour Leader, Keir Starmer, is a culpable as Boris Johnson. And also, if he's an alien from space.
Reasons to be cheerful rounds out the episode as usual. Enjoy!

Wednesday Apr 07, 2021

In this episode, Josh and Has go deep on addiction.
As we come to the proposed end of lockdown in the UK, we are facing an emergent world where many have found comfort and support through various forms of additional consumption - be that alcohol, food, drugs, work, fitness etc.
They unpack Josh's own personal journey - where Has asks Josh about his triggers and replacement strategies.
They talk about whether addiction can ever be healthy and what role ‘WILLPOWER’ has to play in keeping addiction at bay.
As usual, their talk is unplanned and they dive further into this are and look at topics of class, race, criminalisation and judgement.
An important conversation that Josh and Hasan hope people will find helpful, useful and resonant.

Wednesday Mar 24, 2021

In this episode, Josh and Hasan talk about the tragic death of Sarah Everard and the impact it's had on the UK. They talk about the appalling statistics around how women are routinely sexually harassed and the lack of faith and trust that anything will ever be done.
As you would possibly expect from two men having a conversation about women's rights and safety, Josh and Hasan explore their naiveté and lack of action around this topic. It's a raw, vulnerable and exposing discussion of the male fragility around this subject.
Josh and Has then talk about one year of UK lockdown and discuss the impact it's had on our society and the role of this nation's government in leading through this crisis.
As always, heavy topics discussed with some lightness and humour along the way and ended as always with some reasons to be cheerful!

Wednesday Mar 10, 2021

In today’s episode, Josh and Has kick off by talking about their relationship with food and how the concept of intuitive eating can help us be more mindful about what is going on.
Has then asks Josh what he would change about society today that would make it a better place, which takes them to talking about children and the future. They then head into Big Tech & regulation, and the role it has to play in functional modern democracies.
Inevitably, Has & Josh then wade into the big debate around Megan and Harry, and discuss the silly little (now currently unemployed) man boy that is Piers Morgan.
They talk about Blackout Tuesday, International Women’s Day, the anxiety around the opening post lockdown - and then give some tactical ways to tackle it.
And they still fit in some top reasons to be cheerful too!

Wednesday Feb 24, 2021

Possibly one of the most challenging episodes of 115 Miles to date.
Josh and Has talk about being triggered and what's currently causing it for them, before heading into a deep conversation about the impact of social media on children and how it has raised the age of innocence. In between this, they cover the effects of influencers, algorithms and pornography on children, sometime leading to awkward moments in the conversation.
As always, Josh and Hasan ensure they are having the most difficult conversations that most people don't want to have. In doing, they are trying to raise consciousness and influence people to think deeply about the choices we have/make in society.

Thursday Feb 11, 2021

Josh and Has take another topsy turvy look at life in the latest podcast episode.
They begin the conversation by exploring what's taking up headspace for them this week in the spirit of going beyond the surface level.
Hasan then brings up the topic of Valentines Day and they explore whether it has a place today as a genuine show of affection or whether it has simply become an instrument of marketing for brands.
They move into a conversation about feelings of numbness that this current lockdown is bringing and ways to cope with it.
As usual, the serious is peppered with lots of gaffes and funny moments including Hasan getting a famous band's name wrong and Josh doing his best Marvin Gaye impression, to name a few....

Wednesday Jan 27, 2021

In this episode, Josh and Hasan begin by discussing their aversion to spending money on themselves, and some of the reasons for it.

Josh and Hasan discuss the impact of the current situation on those families that are truly suffering economically and their perceptions of the class divide in politics, which leads them towards discussing whether the media has changed significantly over the last few decades.
As usual, they end with reasons to be cheerful...enjoy!

Thursday Jan 14, 2021

As usual, Josh and Has dive straight into the main topics surrounding us in society.
Being the beginning of the year, they talk about resolutions, or more aptly, failed resolutions. And discuss ways we can make them last.
They cover the recent Capitol riot in the US and then look at the travesty of the food parcels fiasco here in the UK.
Several topics come in and out of the conversation, including Hasan's inability to get his numbers right, censoring extreme right/left wing voices and the role of technology and media in forming opinions.

Wednesday Dec 16, 2020

In the final episode of 115 Miles for 2020, Josh and Hasan tackle some of the most important topics of the moment. Things like:

Why Josh hates Christmas jumpers

Wednesday Dec 02, 2020

In this 20th and penultimate episode of 2020, Has and Josh go deep on the topic of cronyism within the current government - exploring the awarding of uncontested contracts to friends of politicians. They explore whether it's ever ok to help "friends" out like this in the real world.
They move into the topic of race and cultural contexts, discussing a recent social media post by a non-British footballer who used a potentially offensive word in this country, but one that he argued was a term of endearment in his country.
Has & John then look at the tough year predicted in 2021, the impact it will have on families and lives and how best to support people through it.
They end this episode with not 1, not 2 but 3 reasons to be cheerful!

They then move into a conversation around the accountabilities of leaders and what happens when a 'gaffe' goes public - a one off mistake or a signal of an inherent set of beliefs?
As they move to reasons to be cheerful, Josh tells a story that gives hope for unity.
Another raw, honest conversation from 115 Miles.

Wednesday Nov 11, 2020

Episode 18 begins with Josh singing his favourite Westlife song.
Though difficult to move on from that big opener, Josh and Hasan then go into a deep topical discussion about lockdown part 2 in the UK and the current impacts of Covid.
Within that discussion, they talk about the value of life in numbers and the consequences of decisions taken against this.
Has and Josh then dive into the US election and Brexit – talking about whether society is more divided or united.
